Girls Baseball

Welcome to the Girls Baseball Programs Page

OWLL is committed to increasing participation and the enjoyment of baseball in our community.  We are proud to offer programming specific to girls and players who identify as girls to encourage fun, participation and skill development in an inclusive environment. By participating in any of our programs, we hope that children will feel a sense of belonging and develop a love of the game.

 Partnership with Jays Care

OWLL was thrilled to have been selected to partner with Jays Care to offer Engaging and Retaining Girls in Sport – a free workshop for coaches, in 2021. Many of our coaches and league executives participated in the program this year.

Girls T-Ball Division

This program offers the youngest ball players a chance to learn basic skills of the game (throwing, catching, hitting off a "T", some baserunning) in a super fun, supportive, and positive environment. Soft balls, bean bags, and oven mitts are just a few examples of equipment used for keeping the kids engaged!  Parent participation is essential for success.

This program is 4-6 years old (based on the current Little League Age Determination Chart).  Girls t-ball is scheduled for Sunday afternoons at Pinecrest t-ball diamond for 2024.

Girls Rookie Division

The rookie division is for girls aged 7-8 years old (based on the current Little League age determination chart).   Players at this level are introduced to hitting versus live pitching. In rookie, coaches pitch to the players. Each player receives 5 pitches or 3 swinging strikes, whichever comes first. Rookie uses the same field dimensions as minor and major levels.

The girls rookie team(s) will play games on Sunday afternoons and will interlock with other Ottawa Little League girls teams, depending on registration.  Free flowing, and fun practices twice a week will be an important part of this program. Schedules for the spring and summer program are still being determined.

Girls Minor Division

The minor division is for girls 9-10 years old (based on the current Little League age determination chart) where players are introduced to player pitching and complete Little League rules. The diamond used is a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet.

The girls minor team(s) will play games on Sunday afternoons and will interlock with other Ottawa Little League girls teams, depending on registration.  Free flowing, and fun practices twice a week will be an important part of this program. Girls Major Division

The major division is for girls 11-12 years old (based on the current Little League age determination chart) where the standard Little League games are played. As players continue to develop their passion and skill for the game, players will experience more hitting and fielding (especially in the outfield!). The diamond used is a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet.

Girls major teams will play games on Sunday afternoons and will interlock with other Ottawa Little League girls teams, depending on registration.  Free flowing, and fun practices twice a week will be an important part of this program. Girls Junior/Senior Division

The junior division is for girls 13 -16 years old (based on the current Little League age determination chart where the standard Little League games are played. As players continue to develop their passion and skill for the game, players will experience more hitting and fielding (especially in the outfield!). Girls Clinics

One day clinics make up an essential component of our girls programming, which will be open to players of all ages. The clinics will provide an opportunity for new players of all ages to get a sense of the game, while offering more experienced players a chance to connect.   Keep an eye on our website to find out when these will be happening.

OWLL’s Co-ed Programs

For players at the intermediate, junior, and senior ages, competitive players looking to play on our district teams, or for families who would like to have siblings play on the same team, OWLL’s Co-ed programs are available for your athlete.

****Our league, and the success of all programs depends on the availability and dedication of volunteers (coaches, parent helpers, etc). The programs and opportunities will only run if we have enough volunteers to support the various programs. Teams and divisions may be combined based on registration/ volunteers. *****
