Mike was born and raised in Ottawa, played Little League in our District,  attended the University of Ottawa, played for Team Ontario in 1994 and was drafted in the 8th round by the Colorado Rookies that same year. He was named their Minor League Player of the Year in 1998. Mike is a nine time member of Team Canada, and was named the Ottawa Baseball Player of the Year in 2006. After his professional playing career, he ran instructional youth baseball camps in Ottawa.  He is presently a teacher at St Pius.

The Mike Kusiewicz Top Pitcher Award is given in recognition of outstanding pitching performance.
